Gently Born Trip

Unable to find acceptable Giants in South Africa, I had to start searching abroad, and finally got in contact with Gently Born, who are consistently the top Giant Schnauzer Kennel in the world. Anna Vlasova, the owner of Gently Born, invited me to Moscow to spend time with her and her dogs, and of course, to see Moscow in winter (picture below is of myself, Anna, and a friend of hers, enjoying a warm -13c afternoon overlooking the Olympic stadium).

On the 16th December 2009, I left a sunny 30c Johannesburg, and the following morning landed in Moscow, where it was -35c.

On the first day and evening, I got to spend time with one of the world's top All Breed's judges, Eugene Yerusalimsky. He invited me into his beautiful home, where I got to eat caviar for the first, and last time. Eugene is also a talented opera singer, and piano player, and I was lucky enough to have him perform for me on his baby grand piano.

For the rest of my time in Moscow, I got to train with Anna's groomer, interact with her dogs (many of which were World Winners), as well as do some sight seeing in the extremely cold conditions. I attended the Golden Collar show, where I met the President of the RKF, Sasha Inshakov.

I came away from the trip with a more in depth knowledge of the breed, as well as some good grooming tips and habits. Gently Born Zig Zag Udachi, Zasha, followed me back to South Africa a few days later, and settled wonderfully into life in Africa.

To date we are the only South African kennel with Gently Born dogs, and we will continue to use Gently Born as our basis to produce beautiful, even tempered dogs.
